Berlin’s famous street food
I grew up in Turkey – which is very much a food culture country – and always loved street food. I preferred eating outside at small stalls to sitting in large restaurants and the doner was always my favourite street food. It is recognised throughout the world under different names sharwa, gyros, al pastor and is universally popular.
But when I migrated to the UK, I noticed the reputation of the doner was more of a post-pub, greasy 2am kind of food. However, I passionately believe that the doner deserves a better reputation because in reality it can be healthy and fresh and one of the best street foods in the world – just ask Berliners! Last year, Germany alone generated $4.5 billion in annual sales and created over 200,000 new jobs. Doner is the number one street food and fast food in Germany and the Berlin-style doner is the most popular. It is a chicken doner with three sauces, grilled vegetables and salad.
This is what we will be serving using local fresh farm ingredients plus our own secret touch!
